Have you started trying to get your kids to go to bed early in preparation for next week when school starts?  (At least most Michigan schools start next Tuesday)  I started with the kids a couple weeks ago just to make sure they would be good to go come school time.  I can tell they are both getting used to going to bed again at 8pm.  Katie still has a little issues as she is one that doesn’t need as much sleep, but Kevin’s been doing pretty good.  (Knock on wood)   I was worrying about the waking up part though as he would always sleep in compared to what he will have to do come school time, but today he woke up earlier than what I would have him wake up if he had to go to school today.

I sit here watching him play quietly with his K’nex and can’t help but think how different our lives will be starting next Tuesday.  While I’m excited to his him grow up and be going to school full time, I can’t help but be a little sad a the same time.  What hurts the most (besides I know I will miss him dearly) is how he will now be seeing his teacher more during the week than he will me.   No longer will I be his number one person for the week.  :(    I’ll just be that lady that gets him up, makes him breakfast, walks him to the bus stop, meet him when he gets off the bus, makes him a snack and supper, takes him to karate and gets him back in bed.   I guess I should be happy I still get to do these things with him because before you know it he will be doing most of that by himself too.  Why do kids have to grow up so darn fast?

Why is it I always have good intentions in the morning to accomplish one of my goals for the day and will start on it, but then my mind starts to wander and by the end of the day what I wanted to get done doesn’t?

For example my goal for today was to clean the bathroom (scrub tub, wash the laminate floor, clean mirror, toilet.. etc) and it started out good.  Got the sink, toilet and mirror done, but then when I went to start on the tub I took the towels off the rod and thought I could start on some laundry right now.  So off I go to collect all the dirty clothes, towels, etc and I start on my first load.   As I head back to the bathroom the kids tell me they are hungry and I realize it’s getting close to lunch time so I better start on  that.

So I make them lunch and can’t just leave the mess so I start cleaning that mess up when I just keep picking stuff up in there.  Of course my laptop is sitting on the counter in the kitchen so I have to check my emails, well since I’m on I might as well check Facebook & Craigslist.  Then I think I haven’t blogged anything recently so I really get comfy, but I just looked at the clock and I realized that I still haven’t completed the job I originally wanted to do today!

Am I the only one this happens to?  Please tell me that it happens to you too.

I can finally start posting again!  For some time my laptop had been acting up and finally crashed on me due to not only my backlight, but my screen going out.  Yesterday I finally was able to get it back from the computer shop so I can start posting again!

So this morning I decided since one of the office stores was having a sale on paper clips, pencils, paper… etc I better go stock up for this school year.   While I was assuming I would be bringing both kids with me, I was shocked when Paul woke up early and said the kids could just stay home with him!

So off to the store I went, great thing was I took the longer way so I could hit a few garage sales, then while shopping at the store I took my time and looked at anything and everything (file cabinets, chair mats, leather briefcase.. etc) then afterwards I ended up taking a different way home and remembered that Allendale was having their big boulevard sales so while driving through town I thought why  not hit the library where I found out they were having a book sale!

I ended up finding Kevin quite a few chapter books as that’s the level he is now reading!   I’m just amazed at how good he is reading, I keep wondering will Katie be following his footsteps.  So far she is starting to read Dick & Jane books to me and will be in preschool this year.  So maybe I will have another book reader on my hands.

It was after that I thought I better head home and was probably a good thing too as Paul needed the much needed break like I had earlier.  :)

So how was your day today?  Did you do anything fun?

It’s been 2 1/2 years since my Grandma passed away, but every day I still think about her and wish she was still here on earth.  Thankfully I have the joy knowing she is in a much better place having the time of her life as she couldn’t wait to meet the Lord our Savior.

This has to be one of my favorite pictures of her.  It was a day some of my aunts, mom & I (of course Kevin too) went shopping to the mall looking for new clothes for my Grandma.  She needed a break and said she would watch Kevin in the hall so I could go in the store and look at kids clothes for him by myself.  I am so thankful I had my camera with me and was able to get this picture of them.

To the prettiest Grandma in the world..  I LOVE and miss you!!

A month (or has it been two now) ago my sister ended up flying over to Kenya with one of her friends to visit some friends of theirs that is doing missionary work.

Even though it’s very warm over there my sister had to pack long skirts instead of shorts.  While I LOVE wearing long skirts (that’s the only kind I have in my closet) I never thought the women over there would always be in long skirts, but I guess that’s the way it is over there and with all the bugs I can see why!

The only thing I don’t get though is after looking through my sister’s pictures, how the kids in school could wear the uniforms that they do as they are in long sleeve SWEATERS!   With classrooms so full that kids are just about sitting on top of each other (so you know the rooms have to be hotter with all the body heat) the kids are also wearing sweaters!

Here it’s in the 80′s or 90′s here and I go somewhere in jeans & a t-shirt and I’m croaking, how do people over there be able to concentrate in school wearing pants and sweaters?  Can your body actually get used to the heat like that?

A couple months ago my Dell Laptop started acting funny and I realized it was the backlight that was going out on it.  Finally today it went kaput so I ended up taking it into the shop to get fixed.  After a couple hours I get the dreaded phone call.. I thought they would be saying it’s ready to be picked up, but unfortunately they called to say not only did my backlight go out, but the screen did too.  So now I’m without my laptop for at least a week, if not two.

Thankfully I still have my desktop, if I didn’t I don’t know what I would do.  The only bad thing is the desktop is now “the kids computer” so I have to fight them for it.  I really hope the computer shop is able to get the parts they need sooner than later.  I really miss having my laptop and being able to be in the living room on it as now I’m stuck down in the basement.  The only good thing is at least the house is staying cleaner longer.  :)

I was just wondering how many of us have a “work out room” in our house?  I wouldn’t say we have a work out room as none of us really work out, but there are times I wish we did.  We do have a treadmill that my Grandma had given me, but due to it not working right (all it runs at is super fast speed).  For either Kevin’s Birthday or Christmas I’m hoping to by him one of those kick master free stand punching/kicking bags so he can practice his karate, but I was wondering what else might be nice?   What I would love to get would be an elliptical, but what else would be fun?   Weight benches, pull up bars, or just a tv & vcr/dvd player to do work outs with?

Do you  have a work out room?  If so, what do you have in yours?

It looks as if we might be going shopping this week, of course it’s something we really didn’t want to do quite yet as we were hoping to wait a little while as it’s another big ticket item for us.  The shopping I’m talking about it cap shopping for our new truck.  While we have been looking online getting ideas we kinda know what we want.  One of the options Paul is thinking of getting is to get something like thule roof racks on top of it so when we go camping we can put our bikes up there, or if Paul need to haul something long like his ladder he can strap that up there as well.   Here I thought buying a cap for a truck would be easy, now I’m finding out there are so many other options you can have with a cap.
