If you’ve never seen Aloha Friday then here is the run down from Island Life….

In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that we take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So I thought on Fridays I would take it easy on posting too. Therefore, I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer. Nothing that requires a lengthy response.

If you would like to participate, just post your own question on your blog and leave the link below. Don’t forget to visit the other participates! It’s a great way to make new bloggy friends!

Now on to my question of the week:

Now that the new shows will be starting this coming up week/month… what tv show are you looking forward to starting this month?

Of course I’m excited to have Desperate Housewives, Biggest Loser, Criminal Minds, NCIS, CIS and such coming back on, but I’m really looking forward to LOST and Flashpoint starting back up!

Does he seem chubby to you?  I hope that doesn’t mean it’s going to be a COLD winter!  (These were taken yesterday)

It’s funny how everything tends to happen at the same time.  You can go years without having a wedding to go to and then all of a sudden wham!  You get 4 wedding’s in one summer!   For my friend it was all in one month!

I’ve realized the same thing happens with babies.  With babies I wonder if once someone say’s they are expecting the baby itch starts and that’s why it seems like everyone gets pregnant at the same time?

Out of the two showers (wedding and baby) I would have to say baby showers are best to shop for.  I tend to buy more things the Mom doesn’t realize she will need, but I’ve been told they were glad I bought them.  For example a shopping cart cover so when the baby gets older and can sit in the shopping cart the Mom won’t have to worry about the baby sucking on germs.  I had one for both kids and used it all the time!  I actually miss having it because not only did it keep them from touching the germy handle, but it also kept me from touching it as well.

If the baby is going to be born in the winter what I have bought in the past is one of those covers that goes over the infant car seats that has a little opening that will velco shut (not completely so the baby can still get air) when you are walking outside in the cold.   I loved using that when my little ones where newborns as I knew they would always be snug as a bug in a rug.   I could always remove it while in the car or if the car is chilly and I wasn’t going to be driving a long ways I could just open up the hole and they never got to warm.  That was priceless for those cold winter days/nights up here in Michigan.

Some other things I’ve never bought, but I’ve always seen other’s buy is clothes and diaper bags.  For the clothes it’s always nice to receive a size that would fit them the following year.  Everyone always gives newborn sizes and they outgrow them so fast.  I remember getting some clothes for Katie that was size 18-24 months and it was so nice to put them on her and remember when Aunt Chris & Cousin Angie gave them to me.

Then there is the diaper bags.. there are so many different kinds out there now a days.  I always used the free black one you got from the hospital, but sometimes I think how fun it would of been to have a stylish one like the Ju Ju Be diaper bags.   Of course with the money I saved from buying a diaper bag I was able to buy quite a few diapers.

Speaking of diapers…. that is also another great gift you could give a mom to be!   I would have to say diapers were my biggest expense.  I did end up doing cloth with Kevin for awhile and actually it wasn’t to bad.  When people think of cloth diapers they think of the kind our Mom’s used on us.. the prefolds with the safety pins and rubber pants.  That’s so not how it is anymore.  You can do it that way, but now they also have the Fitted diaper (where you can fold the prefold up and stuff it in there) or the AIO (all in one) which is no different than using a disposable except  you don’t throw it away in the trash.. instead you throw it in your washer!   The other fun thing about cloth diapers are they are so darn cute!  There are so many designs out there… plus I think nothing is cuter than seeing a little one crawl/walk in a cloth diaper!

Since I ended up talking about baby shower gifts… what kind of gifts do you give at baby showers?  Do you go the practical way or do you go the fun way?

We had Katie’s first birthday party for the year today.  (Our kids end up having 2.. one for each side of the family)  I just can’t believe my baby is going to be 3 years old tomorrow!  Where does the time go?  It seems like it was just yesterday when Kevin turned 3 and got his pedalless bike… I can’t even imagine Katie riding that yet.  Is it just because she is my baby?

While Paul’s family was over Paul surprised me by saying he is ready to re-paint the living room.  Our living room has one wall that is a dark green and he is thinking it might be nice to make it a tan color.  (That way it will still go with our camo/hunting theme)  I looked at him and informed him that the kids bedrooms will be painted first before we tackle that project and he seemed ok with that.  Maybe it’s because his parents are over?!?

It seems like it was just yesterday when we found this house.  It was a spec home so we were able to pick out the colors, flooring, sinks, lighting fixtures, counter-tops.. etc. What a headache that was for me. I have a hard time making decisions, so much I don’t think I would of done good building a house from scratch. Of course looking back now I wish we had found it earlier and could of made a couple of changes. Like not having the living room right on the other side of the master bedroom. For the normal family that might work, but for ours it doesn’t as Paul works 2nd shift and when we are in the living room even if I’m just reading books to the kids he can hear everything. Of course I think once both kids are in school all day it won’t be as big of a deal.

So speaking of houses and changes…  if you would re-build your house, what’s one change you would make?

I went to tuck Katie in bed and saw she decided to be an artist once again on her walls. Somehow she got a hold of a pen and decided to “draw” on her nice cream walls. I would love to re-paint her bedroom as I’ve been wanting to for quite sometime, but Paul seems to think we should wait till she is older. I just feel so bad for her as her room is so boring. I really want to do something to make it look like a GIRLS room!

My niece is changing the theme in her room from Butterflies to horses and my sister called up wondering if Katie would like her butterfly things! I know it will go perfect in Katie’s room as she already has a butterfly quilt!

Now I’ll just have to figure what to do by the windows. I’ve been told that bamboo blinds are pretty cool, but I think I’ll end up sticking with the blinds and room darkening curtains I have in there, but the curtains are just plain white so I would love to find something to go over them to give it a color in there.

I keep thinking maybe now would be a good time of year do spruce up here room. Now I just have to convince Paul of it!

Tis the time of year when organizations are looking for donations more than ever.  For example, at every Walgreens and Wal-mart I go to right now there is always someone standing by door ringing a bells collecting donations for Salvation Army.

Then  in West Michigan there is the Toys for Tots where U.S. Marine Corp collects toys at area stores, tv stations, etc and will give them to children that might not get anything this Christmas Season.

It seems like you always hear about those kind of organizations because the news talks about them all the time, but don’t forget the other ones that could use your help like ones that help fund cerebral palsy research and Cancer Research.  Then there are the other organizations like your local food pantries and homeless shelters that are always needing help and right now is when they also need your help more than ever.

This is my delima right now… I have $50 to spend on myself for a Christmas present and I have no clue what to get.

My Mom took this picture and I finally got a copy of it awhile back and ended up taking a picture of it so I could post it on here.  I just loved my kids reaction.  (Pretending their the deer too)

**********************************

I now feel bad that I posted this. When I look at it I honestly giggle, but of course I don’t mind that my husband deer hunts since because that’s meat for us for the year. I’ll just have to remember to not put deer pictures up anymore.
